Guess Who's Twenty!

As of Saturday, I am finally out of my teens.  Mack and I spent the day snowboarding, resulting in some minor injuries and lots of fun for the both of us.  It was Mack's first time and he spent most of his two runs falling down the mountain, but had a blast regardless.  So excited to see what all this snow lately has done to the mountain, but not sure when we'll be able to go up again.  All in all, it was a good day to celebrate my birthday :)

Just now realized that we got photobombed in this pic!  You go photobomber!  Props.

How to Not Make Custodians Hate You

This is a friendly Public Service Announcement to the general public.  It's very likely that you all see custodians on a regular basis.  Now what you may not know is that custodians are basically superheroes.  We are behind every magic clean up and we are the ones that save your hide when you lock your keys in your office.  Custodians are not the kind of people you want to piss off.  We have access to many unsavory chemicals that you wouldn't want used against you in a revenge plot (which, honestly, wouldn't happen.  Custodians are actually really nice).  So to keep your custodians happy, here's what you shouldn't do.

  1. Don't be an idiot.
  2. If there is a cart blocking the bathroom with a "Closed for Cleaning" sign anywhere by it, chances are that it's closed.
  3. If the bathroom is closed, don't ask the custodians if you can use the bathroom.  Like seriously, we will make fun of you.
  4. Boys, LEARN HOW TO AIM
  5. Throwing trash on the floor is still considered "littering".  We already have jobs and lots of work to do, there is no need to give us more work to do
  6. Pretty please try and throw up in the trashcan and not on the carpet.
  7. Get a sippy cup or learn how to not spill
  8. Yes, I'm aware of the event that is going on soon, there is no need to tell me about it while I'm cleaning the bathroom so that it's clean for said event
  9. Don't tell us how to do our job.
  10. I have seen things you can't even imagine.  That being said, do not try to one-up the poop explosion of '15. Just....  Don't....
  11. Don't assume we are inferior to you just because we clean up crap.  I am a pilot, what have you accomplished?
  12. Please don't ignore signs that say "Closed for Cleaning".  We deal with chemicals that you don't want to inhale or get on your skin.  Be safe.  Wait until we are done.
  13. Adapt.  There is another staircase and/or another bathroom just down the hall.  Calm down.
  14. If you want your office cleaned, all you have to do is let us know nicely.  We will totally clean it for you, but we don't have psychic powers and can't magically know that you want it cleaned.
  15. We are people just like you.  Treat us with respect and we won't hate you. Seems like a fair trade to me :)

It's Been 6 Months

Our 3-month wedding anniversary is tomorrow.  And so today Mack woke me up with roses and chocolate because he is awesome.  Which reminds me, today is the 6 month anniversary of when we got engaged!  So I would like to share with you all that special day.

June 2nd, 2015
It was no surprise that we were going to get engaged, it was mostly just a matter of when.  We had the real ring being made and we had gotten the fake ring from Target.  I knew it would happen soon, just didn't know when.  I texted Mack saying that I wanted to go for a walk after work because the weather was really nice that day.  Mack thought it was perfect and stopped by his apartment before he picked me up to grab the ring.  We stopped by my apartment to grab a jacket and drop off my stuff and walked around.  Now, Mack is a teaser.  There were about 5 times on that walk where I thought he was gonna propose, but he faked it by like tying his shoe or pointing out a cool rock and such.  It got darker and he suggested we go for a drive up the mountains, maybe go for a mini hike as well.  We drove up Provo canyon and up this small peak and then got out and walked around.  He started picking wildflowers for me, which was cute.  It was dark so after about 20 minutes we started to head back to the car.  I was walking ahead of him because my phone still had battery and we needed the flashlight to see the path.  He called my name and I turned around, expecting to see whatever new flower he had found, but instead I was greeted with a bouquet of wildflowers surrounding my ring and him on one knee.  He then asked me to marry him and of course I said yes :)

And 6 months later it's still the best decision EVER.

A Month of Thanks -Day 10

It snowed today.  But like not really because it was like 7 little flakes and then they melted.  But it was COLD!
With that said, today I am very thankful for fuzzy, warm socks.  They bring me much joy and comfort and I always need more of them.

A Month of Thanks -Day 9

I'm thankful for modern medicine. I'm also thankful that most of the migraines I get are preceded by this thing called a scintillating scotoma, which is a patch of fuzzy, shimmery eyesight. So I at least have a warning before the migraine kicks in. Very thankful for painkillers.

A Month of Thanks -Days 5, 6, 7, and 8

I didn't realize how hard this was going to be to post every single day.  Anyway, so here's my thanks:

Day 5: I'm really grateful for my good genetics.  They make lazy, no-make-up days possible. I can just kind of throw my hair up and slap some mascara on and run out the door, all the while looking reasonably acceptable.

Day 6: I'm really grateful for humor.  I was telling my sister-in-law about my work project, which was stripping and waxing floors, but it's not really stripping, it's more like scrubbing the last layer of wax off instead of using a stripper chemical.  Anyway, I told her I was stripping, but not really, so she, in a stroke of genius and hilarity, said, "So, you're stripteasing?"  My tired self thought that was one of the funnier jokes I've ever heard :)

Day 7: I'm really thankful for my husband and all his space heater qualities.

Day 8:  I am so very thankful for music and the fact that it can create an atmosphere in an instant.  It's how I prepare myself for the Sabbath day.  Gotta love that MoTab Pandora station.

A Month of Thanks -Day 4

I am really thankful for the colder weather!  I love that I can finally wear layers and sweaters and not be unbearably hot.  And as soon as it starts being cold enough for snow, I will be incredibly thankful for snow :)

A Month of Thanks -Day 3

I am thankful for two things today.  Laundromats with functioning appliances and my husband.  Laundromats because we finally tried out a new laundromat today.  The one at our apartment is terrible.  None of the dryers work and the washers only kind of work.  We've been trying to make do with them but to no avail.  So we tried out a new place today and I can honestly say I've never been more grateful for a dryer that actually gets things warm and dry rather than just warm and wet.
Today is my second month-iversary celebrating my wedding.  My husband is the greatest thing ever.  I don't know where I would be without Mack.  He makes me better and I am so lucky to be with him. I love you McAllister!

A Month of Thanks -Day 2

I'm thankful for being financially stable.  No, we aren't rich but we can make ends meet.  We can afford groceries and rent and clothing.  It's a blessing.

A Month of Thanks -Day 1

I am thankful for my job.  Even though as a custodian I deal with a lot of crap....  Both figuratively and literally.

Burtons..... Plus One!

Contrary to what this title may allude to, we are not having a baby! No, we did something far more crazy, we have a kitten.  Now I know what you are all thinking, Miranda, you are allergic to cats.
Mack and I had really been discussing that we wanted a pet.  We don't have time for a dog and when we were listing qualities of a pet we wanted they were all cat qualities.  We did some research and it is possible to live with a cat while having pet allergies.  Just need to keep the apartment clean and I need to take medication.
Mack had a friend who needed to get rid of a kitten fast...  and for free!  And she was adorable.  We had her bring the kitten over on Saturday to see how my allergies would react.  I did fine that night and it's been 3 days since.  I've had slight congestion but nothing major.

Her name is Frieza, she's about 4 months old, and she's possibly the most affectionate cat I've ever met.  She loves the moving red dot and surprisingly, she's okay with the leash.  We love her very much.  She stole our hearts pretty fast.

She also doesn't like baths......  At all.

Presenting the New Mrs. Burton

So, 11 days ago I got married.  And I have a severe lack of pictures from that day.  But I will post what I have.  All you need to know was that day was magical for me.  I feel like you don't completely realize how much you love someone until they are kneeling across from you at an altar with the biggest grin on their face and it's all you can do to keep from crying tears of absolute joy (those came later after hugging my dear friend Sarah).  The dress was beautiful, the cake was beautiful, the decor was beautiful, the Husband looked absolutely stunning.   LOVE HIM.
First Look

The sweetest baby cousin like ever!  He kept giving us big, giant hugs :)

While You Were Out

It has come to my attention that I haven't posted since November.  Evidently, I forgot I had a blog or something.  My apologies...
Since November, several holidays have passed, I turned 19, I got my pilot's license, and I got engaged!  But I'm planning on a separate post for that last exciting thing.  But maybe I should try and catch you up on more details month by month?
November, all I really remember was Thanksgiving, because food.  And flying.  Two of my favorite things :)
December had the end of my first semester of college, I passed the Private Pilot knowledge test, it had the first time someone ever through a surprise birthday party for me, one of my best friends (The lovely Kaitlyn Dejarnatt) left on a mission to (Insert unpronounceable and unspell-able city name here) Ukraine.  Her emails include lots of Ukrainian words that I can't for the life of me pronounce. Or read.  Russian just does not look like a language as more of a conglomerate of lines and squiggles.  At least she can read it :)  Christmas came and went and I became the proud owner of an electric blanket and a new snowboarding jacket :)  Which I got to use once during the snowboarding season.  Which was depressing.  Utah just didn't want to have a winter.  Except whenever I had to fly.  Over the course of December and January I had to reschedule sooooo many flights.  That finishes up 2014.  My 2015 started off really really lame.  I had a terrible New Year's eve celebration, (Bananagrams with your now ex-boyfriend's parents is not at all the way that a young adult wants to welcome in the new year).  I didn't even get sparkling cider or sing any karaoke! Lame.  January 5th (I remember the date because it was really significant in my life) started spring semester and a newly single life. Which of course I made the best of :)  Being single is actually really fun.  Not nearly as fun as being in a relationship, but it's a lot less stressful.  I made a few new friends that month and stayed up to date (for the most part) with my laundry :)
February came and went.  I earned my Private Pilot's license on the 10th and then didn't get to fly again for a month.  Also that month I got a new boyfriend.....  But my follow-up post I am going to make all about him so that I can get general up-to-date stuff done here :)
March..... obviously wasn't that important to me...  Because  I can't remember anything about it.
A quick scan of Facebook has reminded me that March was the month of my stripping accident :)  Apparently the only memorable thing of March.  What happened was at work we were refinishing some stairs and me, being the idiot I am, I got stripper alll over my forearm.  That's bad.  Stripper burns and I ended up going to the emergency room that night.  But, I wasn't really injured that bad, just a minor chemical burn.  And because I treated it right after it happened, the ER trip was really just a formality to be safe and because my boss's boss insisted.
April...  spring break happened, lots of being chill and hanging out, but there was also lots of studying of course, because spring semester was about to wrap up.  Which is stressful of course.  I did fairly well in my classes, especially acting, because I'm just that cool.  That and acting is fairly easy.  I'm a natural :)  Or something like that...
May, May, May....  At this point in the post I don't even know.  I've actually been trying to work on this the past few days and keep losing my train of thought.  Let's just say May was good aside from that one time my boyfriend got me sick and then we were just super sick for like 2 days.  Not fun.  I missed Mother's Day.
And June, well, June has mostly been math class, flight training, and wedding planning :)
Stayed tuned for my next post...  If I have time it will show up tomorrow, but this post took me 3 days to accomplish and it's not even that great.  I'm sorry I'm an absolutely terrible blogger.
